This is an top iconic luxury hotel was built to cater for the Orient Express train passengers on their way from Paris to Istanbul in 1925. So it reaches its centenary next year. The highlight is the very fine Emerald Ballroom, which is oval and has a dome ceiling. This enables patrons to hear conversations form one side of the room to the other. It is said that this facility was used by certain individuals before the Second World War and during the Cold War. The bedroom was very comfortable and well appointed. The breakfast was excellent, when the staff were very attentive. The location of the hotel is very near to Zagreb's main railway station and within walking distance of the Old Town and the city's main attractions. It is also easy to drive to from off the A1, A2, and A3 motorways from the south west of the city. The breakfasts in the sunny Zinfandel's Restaurant were excellent with the staff there being very efficient and attentive. The slightly more casual Bistro Restaurant on the western side of the hotel is very good on a warm summer's evening. The concierge, porters, waiting and bedroom cleaning staff were very helpful and friendly. They all appeared to be privileged to be working in such a very special establishment. We would have no hesitation in recommending this independent historic luxury hotel to anyone other than to remote internet business users (see below).

Where to begin, once we stepped foot into the hotel we fell in love with the decor and architecture of the hotel and the local area. The staff were friendly, and attentive. All staff members spoke English so that was helpful. The hotel is in a good location to the town and other attractions, whether you would be travelling by car or walking it was pretty simple to navigate once you became familiar with your surroundings. Although, we enjoyed walking to see what Zagreb, Croatia was all about. Our room was a good size. It had such a brilliant view, and during our stay we had great weather which made it all the better too! The breakfast was great, lots of options from the buffet to the menu. As mentioned, the staff were incredibly accommodating on each request we had too, so thank you :). My friend and I drank at the hotel bar, and we were served with lovely cocktails. On our last evening we dined at the Zinfandel Restaurant (the restaurant in the hotel) and the food was phenomenal. The atmosphere and the service was just as impeccable as the food - we could not compliment it enough we had to pass our compliments to the chef. All in all, we would most certainly stay here again!

The staff is amazing. Everyone was cheerful and helpful. Tips were appreciated and not expected. Of course, we spent a considerable amount of time in the bar, and the staff there is world class! Housekeeping was unseen, but my room was fresh and clean everyday when I returned from work. Room service was punctual, food was hot, and attendant was polite and eager to please. I reported the issues that I will explain in the next question to someone in the lobby. He took my concerns very seriously, went to talk to maintenance and came back and asked if it was ok for them to go to the room immediately and resolve my concerns. Having a staff like yours makes everything wonderful. Thanks to them all, and thank you for hiring, training, and motivating them. Good job.

This is one of those rare hotels that is more reminiscent of a family than a part of the service industry. I've spent the last few Christmases at this hotel, and I truly feel like I've been welcomed into that family. While the hotel is incredibly well-appointed and steeped in history - you really couldn't do better than a restaurant with two Michelin restaurants - it's this staff of consummate professionals that makes this a home away from home. Come on by and grab a seat at the bar!

The architecture and pure history of this hotel is amazing. From check in to check out our whole stay was fantastic. I like that the rooms are spacious as are the bathrooms, and that there’s a little book with the history of the property. We didn’t try the restaurants but the cocktails in the bar were fantastic and the staff were all welcoming and helpful. I’d stay here again.
